60-km long ring road in Ludhiana
The Punjab government is planning to construct a 60-km long ring road around Ludhiana. The road will take a minimum of two years for commissioning. The Punjab Infrastructure Development Board, the nodal agency for the project, will first commission a detailed techno-economic feasibility study for the project.
IOC to lay pipelines in UP
IOC is installing pipelines across rivers and canals in a bid to extend the Kurukshetra-Saharanpur branch pipeline up to Najibabda via Roorkee. The company will use horizontal directional drilling method and commission the line within eight months from commencement of work.
Aluminium mills in Jharkhand
The Jharkhand government has requested Hindalco to study the possibility of installing cold rolling mills in Latehar or Lohardaga districts of the state. The A.V. Birla group company will present its proposal in three months. The government is studying ways to give a fillip to bauxite-based industries.
Waste water project in Bhubaneswar
The Orissa government has awarded the contract for low-cost waste water management project for Bhubaneswar city to the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. XIM has tied up with the Central Institute of Fresh Water Aquaculture and the India-Canada Environment Facility, New Delhi, for developing the project. This innovative location-specific, natural and low-cost technique involves the treatment of urban waste water (sewage) by aquaphytes and different fish species.
The Rs 8.7 crore project, slated for completion in five years, will be funded by the ICEF, CIFA and XLRI-Jamshedpur. It will involve the renovation and conversion of five natural silted and weed infested wetlands in the city into duckweed and fish ponds.
Gujarat Guardian plans new unit
Gujarat Guardian Ltd, an equal partnership JV between the Modi group and Guardian Industries Corporation, US, plans to invest Rs 700 crore in setting up a plant in Gujarat. The 3.5-lakh tonne per annum capacity plant will come up adjoining its existing plant in Bharuch. It produces 1.75 lakh tonnes of float glass and 36,000 tonnes of mirror per annum. The plant is to be commissioned in 2004-05.
