The Regional Laboratory of the Public Works Department, Government of Maharashtra, has launched the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) which can perform tensile strength, compressive strength, cold bend test and shear test for steel bars either for M.S., tor bars or bars in spindle up to 70 mm diametre. The strength of channel angels, I sections, T sections, M.S. sheets and M.S. circular square hollow pipes can also be ascertained as per the specification laid down in the relevant I.S. codes.
