Cement despatches of 9.69 million tonnes for May 2002 at 9.69 million tonnes were up 7.55 per cent compared to 9.01 million tonne in May 2001. Cement production grew by 9.78 per cent to 9.88 million tonne compared to 9 million tonne last year. However, when compared to previous month's despathces the growth is just 1.15%. At the same time, For April to May 2002, production rose by 10.16 per cent and despatches by 9.49 per cent.
Grasim's cement production registered a double-digit rise of 10 per cent at 1.02 million tonnes during May 2002 as compared to May 2001. In April, the company had produced 1.04 mt, nearly a fourth more than its production in April 2001.
