Master plan to develop Jog Falls as tourist centre

A Rs 100-crore master plan to develop the world famous "Jog Falls" in Shimoga district of Karnataka into an international tourist centre has been prepared by the Jog Development Authority in Karnataka. The plan is to introduce boating and water sports and develop the garden on the model of the Brindavan Gardens near Mysore, on 80 acres of land near the Linganamakki Reservoir.
Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd has also submitted a plan to make "Jog Falls" a perennial one. Continuous flow of water to the falls will be ensured by constructing a barrage upstream on the river Sharavathy. Boating facilities will be introduced in the Sharavathy river course between Sharavathy Hydel Power Station and the Sharavathy dam at Gerusoppe A ropeway to replace the existing trolley currently in existence and building a shopping complex at the entry of the Jog area is also planned.
The project will be implemented in phases. A contribution of Rs 3.5 crore has been made by the state in the first phase, estimated at Rs 15 crore. Process of inviting tenders has been initiated.
