L&T projects Rs 1,000 crore foreign operations
By A Business Correspondent
Larsen & Toubro Ltd, India's major engineering and construction conglomerate, plans to expand its presence in the global construction market in a big way. Being the first Indian construction company to get the ISO Certification recently, the company now aims at competing with international giants for major orders from across the globe, according to A. Ramakrishna, President (Operations) and Deputy Managing Director of L&T.
He said L&T hoped to achieve a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore from its international operations this fiscal as against Rs 430 crore last year. International operations, which constituted just 6 per cent of the total turnover at present, would go up to 15 per cent in the coming years. Though the company managed to have a presence in international construction markets, lack of a certification like that of ISO was a major handicap to make forays into the global market, he said.
