Rs 8,000 crore for strengthening of tracks

The Railways will spend Rs 8,000 crore during the next five years to strengthen the tracks linking the four metros. Apart from accounting for bulk of the freight traffic transported through the GQ, the metros also account for 50 per cent of the passenger traffic.
Upgradation of the tracks will help to speed up train services on the GQ network. Further, the Railways also plans to spend Rs 3,000 crore on linking seaports with the hinterland.
