Usha Beltron ties up with German company for steel cords
By A Business Correspondent
Usha Beltron Ltd, India's largest and the world's fifth largest steel wire rope manufacturer, has entered into an agreement with Gustav Wolf, Germany, the speciality wire, cord and rope manufacturer, for making steel cords in India. The plant, to be set up at Ranchi in Jharkhand, will make steel cords for conveyor belt reinforcement applications. Steel cords are presently imported.
UBL has interests in steel, wires and jelly filled telephone cables. The company's production facilities are located in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Agra and Bangalore while its distribution centres are spread across India, Europe, Asia, Africa and USA.
Though the company has interests in telecom, with its JFTC contributing 21 per cent of the turnover, it is mainly concentrating on steel and steel products. As a result the contribution of the telecom sector to the total turnover is expected to come down gradually.
