The JV between IVRCL Infrastructure & Projects, Hyderabad, and VA Tech Wabag, a Chennai-based Austrian subsidiary, is in the advanced stage of commissioning the 12 mld sewerage treatment plant at Perungudi garbage dumping yard near Chennai for the Alandur Municipality.
The Rs 6 crore treatment plant is equipped with SCADA system and will feature the latest mechanical screening system, considered far better than the conventional comb type system.
According to the Project Manager of VA Tech Wabag, the agreement between Alandur Municipality and First STP also envisages setting up a treatment plant of similar size adjacent to the existing site in phase II at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The treated effluents will be supplied through an underground drainage pipeline to the nearby Buckingham canal, 2.3 km away from the project site.
