WORK ON SETHU SAMUDRAM CANAL PROJECT TO START SOON



The  National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) is expected to submit the  techno-economic and environmental impact assessment studies for the Sethu Samudram Canal Project by May 2003. At a review meeting the Union Minister of State for Shipping Shri Su Thirunavukkrasar informed that the work is expected to start  after receiving the cabinet approval.

 

The Sethu Samudram Canal Project once completed will reduce 36 hours of shiptime and the shiproute will be reduced by 400 kms.The project for achieving 7 meter depth will cost Rs. 200 to 230 crore .
