CPSUs Plan Rs 90,000 cr. Capex in 2003-04

The Central government public sector units will continue to remain the major growth drivers in the economy during 2003-04. The capital expenditure of these companies will collectively exceed Rs 90,900 crore in the current year. This exceeds the estimated revised spending assessed at Rs 84,000 in 2002-03. A perusal of the data reveals that the bulk of the capex amount will be met largely through the internal resources and market borrowings in forms of debentures and loans. The Exchequer will not be greatly burdened. Of these 20 companies will account for nearly two-thirds of the total spending. ONGC is the largest with capex spending of over Rs 13,000 crore. (for details please see Project Monitor issue dated April 16-30,2003)
