Various states plan water and wastewater treatment plants



Punjab
The Punjab Small Industries & Export Corporation intends to set up a 5 mld capacity common tannery effluent treatment plant at the Leather Complex in Jalandhar.

Kerala
The Kerala Water Authority is to construct a 8.5 mld water treatment plant at Kulathupuzha in the next 12 months. Contact: 0474-2745293

Tamil Nadu
The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has invited the private sector to set up a sea water desalination plant on design, build-own-operate and transfer basis at Minjur, Chennai, using any technology. The capacity of the plant may be 100 mld, 200 mld or 300 mld. It will come up by the end of the year 2005. The Board will purchase 80 per cent of the installed capacity on take or pay basis with the minimum term of water purchase agreement being 25 years. It will provide the operational power on payment of charges and will make the required land available to the investor.
The Works Minister of the Government of Malaysia has met the Tamil Nadu CM and expressed interest in establishing such units (sea water treatment plants) in the state. The Construction Industry Development Board and Sumitomo, a Japanese firm operating in the country, will make the actual bids.

Andhra Pradesh
The AP government plans to construct a 30 mld STP plant based on U.A.S.B technology and main pumping station at Rajamundry.

Maharashtra
MIDC is to appoint an operator to establish integrated hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility across the state, at Mahad, Butibori, Shendre and Ranjangaon industrial estates. The Corporation has earmarked 28 hectares of land at Shendre for waste generated from industries located in MIDC Shendre, Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed, estimated to be approximately 63,240 tonnes per year with a landfill quantity of 50,592 tonnes per year and incineration of 12,690 tonnes per year.
At Butibori, MIDC has designated a 30-hectare area for MIDC Butibori, Nagpur, Yavatamal, Amravati, Chandrapur and Bhandara comprising a secured landfill of 50,000 tpa capacity and incineration of 15,000 tpa capacity.
