Go-ahead for pipeline projects in Gujarat
The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests has cleared two pipeline projects, one to be undertaken by Gujarat State Petronet Ltd and the other by IOC, both in Gujarat. In addition, IOC has also obtained clearance for the installation of facilities for motor spirit quality improvement at its Gujarat Refinery.
GSPL plans to lay a 681-km long gas pipeline from Vapi in Valsad district to Vadnagar in Mehsana district thereby transporting 20 mmscmd of natural gas on common carrier basis. This pipeline will connect various demand and supply points in the state passing through 11 districts, namely Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Bharuch, Baroda, Anand, Kheda, Panchmahal, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Mehsana..
GSPL will employ the trenching method to lay 676 km of pipeline and horizontal direct drilling through 5 km for major rivers. The construction of pipeline, particularly at river and stream crossings, would be done during dry seasons to avoid disturbance to breeding and to minimise soil erosion. The total land requirement is 1,362 hectares for right of use.
The pipeline will have a master control at Gandhinagar and a back-up centre at Mora.
Gas will be sourced from Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation's gas field at Hazira, Petronet Ltd's LNG terminal at Dahej, Cairn-ONGC-Tata Petrodyne gas field at Cambay basin, and Shell LNG's terminal at Hazira.
The capital cost of the project is estimated at Rs 1,167.7 crore.
IOC has also got the MoEF's clearance for a pipeline from Mundra to Kandla. It will also execute the Rs 673 crore scheme to improve MSQ (1.241 mtpa) at its Gujarat refineries. The unit is to be set up within the existing refinery complex.
