ABC to transport India's longest ODC cargo

The Project Division of ABC India Ltd has recently secured the contract of transporting imported equipment for IOC's Panipat and Mathura projects. IOC is upgrading its existing refinery at both these places. This upgradation task has been entrusted to L&T Ltd and Dalem Industrial Co.Ltd, South Korea.
The project movement involves receiving a consignment of heavy and over dimensional equipment at Kandla port and moving it to the project site at Panipat and Mathura covering a distance of around 1,600 km. According to the company, this would be the first time in India that such heavy and over dimensional cargo is being transported over such a long distance. The highlight of the movement is the utilisation of hydraulic trailers in parallel couplings so that equipment having a width of 6.3 metres can be transported by road.
Another special feature is that the proposed movement is through five major canals carrying drinking water from Haryana to Delhi Metro. Since this water flow cannot be disrupted and bypass arrangements cannot be made, the company plans to design and construct Pontoon bridges with ramps to move the consignment across these canals.
Yet another major feature involves the construction of more than 60 bypasses en route, longest of which being 1,500 metres in length.
ABC India will execute this project along with one of its business associates, Reshamsingh & Co. Pvt. Ltd, on consortium basis. The project is likely to commence from October this year and is expected to be completed by March 2004.
