Eco-conservation project for Bhimbetka in MP
An environment conservation project for the area around the world heritage site, Bhimbetka, in Madhya Pradesh, has been sanctioned. The Rajiv Gandhi Mission for Watershed Management had sent a proposal for the project to the Central government.
The treatment of 12,000 hectares of land around Bhimbetka would be taken up in Obedullaganj block of Raisen district under Integrated Wasteland Development Prorgramme. Raisen Zila Panchayat would complete the project in five years. Under the project, soil and water conservation and afforestation works would be executed with local participation.
Situated on the Bhopal-Hoshangabad road, 46 km from Bhopal, Bhimbetka is famous for rock paintings of Paleolithic era. Bhimbetka became a world heritage site only this year.
