Finished steel production up 6%
During the 1st five months of the current year, finished steel production has been provisionally estimated at 14 million tonnes against 13.2 million tonnes during the same period last year, thereby registering a growth of more than 6 per cent. Pig iron production during the period is estimated at 2.23 million tonnes against 2.18 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year. During the period total exports of finished steel touched 19.5 lakh tonnes against 14.17 lakh tonnes during the same period of the previous year, registering an increase of more than 37 per cent. Besides, 2.5 lakh tonnes of semis were exported during these five months.
