NEEPCO conducting feasibility studies for 18 hydel projects

By A Business Correspondent

The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation is taking active participation in the Prime Minister's ambitious "50,000 mw Hydro-electric Initiative". It has been asked to prepare Preliminary Feasibility Reports (PFRs) for 18 hydel power projects in the North-East with an aggregate capacity of 5,165 mw.
NEEPCO will take up these schemes in three phases. In phase-I, the PFRs for the following schemes in the Kameng basin have already been prepared with the stipulated time frame and submitted to the Central Electricity Authority.
Based on the contents of the PFRs, a detailed project report will be prepared. Setting up of all the projects could spill over into the 12th Five-Year Plan and even beyond.
In the meantime, the 250-mw Lower Kopili HEP in Assam has been found commercially viable by the Central Electricity Authority based on feasibility report submitted by NEEPCO.
