NHPC completes 300-mw Chamera project in HP

The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd has completed the 300-mw Chamera (stage-II) project in Himachal Pradesh eight months ahead of schedule. It had commissioned one unit of 100 mw of Chamera stage-II project in October 2003, also eight months ahead of schedule. The remaining two units of 100 mw each are likely to be commissioned within a few days.
NHPC has been awarded the civil works package of the 132-mw Teesta Low Dam (stage-III) HEP project in Darjeeling, West Bengal. This is NHPC's first HEP in West Bengal. The project is scheduled to be commissioned during the ongoing 10th plan. The project is a run-of-the-river scheme and is located on the river Teesta. On completion, the project will generate 594.07 million units energy annually. The corporation is executing the Central Sector project at a cost of Rs 768.94 crore with debt-equity ratio of 70:30. Government approval has been received for increasing the authorised share capital from the present Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore.
NHPC has signed two MoUs with the Uttaranchal government to execute the 850-mw Kotli Bhel project and the 420-mw Lakhwar Vyasi project in the state.
The corporation has been awarded the civil works package of the 120-mw Sewa stage-II project in J&K. It has successfully diverted the river at the 800-mw Parbati stage-II project in HP.
During the current financial year up to November 15, NHPC has received new consultancy assignments and payments amounting to Rs 9,265 lakh and Rs 1,145 lakh against Rs 869 lakh and Rs 248 lakh, respectively, in the previous year.
