L&T begins work on Lafarge plant

Larsen and Toubro Ltd has started initial construction work on Lafarge Surma Cement's main cement plant at Chhatak, Sunamganj, Bangladesh, and the 17-km long belt conveyor that will link the plant with the limestone quarry at Shella, Meghalaya. The project is to be completed in November 2005.
L&T Ltd received the $103.35 million order from LSC to build the 1.2 mtpa cement plant on a turnkey basis. The project will be the only fully integrated cement plant in Bangladesh. It will be capable of producing 3,600 tpd of clinker and 1.2 mtpy of cement.
