Guwahati Refinery makes tech headway

IOC's Guwahati Refinery is the only refinery in the country to make some headway in producing needle coke. Guwahati Refinery has also commissioned three new units, namely ISOSIV, hydrotreater and inmax. The ISOSIV is the first in the country to produce lead free petrol with the help of molecular sieve technology through separation of octane rich components from feed naphtha. The hydrotreater unit produces low sulphur diesel conforming to BIS specifications. The unit also produces superior kerosene with high smoke point and low sulphur dispensing with the earlier process, which involves the use of toxic sulphur dioxide. At present, the refinery produces LPG, motor spirit, HSD, HDO, raw petroleum coke and superior kerosene.
