KRC to introduce ACD on Mumbai-Roha stretch

By A Staff Reporter

The Konkan Railway Corporation plans to declare the 760 km stretch from Roha near Mumbai to Thokur near Mangalore as ACD (anti-collision device) Territory. The ACDs will have the special function of monitoring the health of cuttings through embedded electronic inclinometers - pendulum devices and pre-warn an approaching train even before a cutting may fail and stop the train short of cutting if any danger is perceived.
The implementation of ACD on Indian Railways has also started with the survey of more than 3,300 route km already completed and reports submitted by KRC to the Railway Board. KRC will shortly take up a survey for an additional 10,000 km route.
KRC, which has indigenously designed the ACD and holds a patent for it, expects the technology to help preempt railway accidents.
