Indo-Nepal product pipeline soon
PM News Bureau
India appears to be serious about the proposed transnational Raxaul-Amalekhganj petroleum product pipeline project to be laid between India and Nepal. The Nepal government has accorded in-principle approval for the project. The National Security Council is now after the petroleum ministry, IOC and the Indian embassy in Nepal to pursue the matter in earnest.
IOC and Nepal Oil Corporation, the kingdom's only petro-product distributing agency, will jointly invest in the project. The pipeline will link Nepal's main distribution depot at Amalekhganj, about 175 km south of Kathmandu, with IOC's supply centre at Raxaul in Bihar on the Indo-Nepal border. The project, if and when implemented, will be a win-win situation for both IOC and NOC. For IOC, it will provide a ready captive market, while, for NOC, it will reduce transportation cost and time and also reduce chances of pilferage and adulteration.
