Tata Power plans 1,000-mw project in Uttar Pradesh
PM News Bureau
The Tata Power Company Ltd is keen to develop a state-of-the-art 1,000-mw power generating plant in Uttar Pradesh. The North Delhi Power Ltd, a joint venture between TPC Ltd and the Delhi government for distribution of power in NCT of Delhi, could benefit from the project, as the former is seeking to build a reliable load-end generating source in UP, to be located in the NCT area. Tata Power wants to competitively service the load requirements of the off takers, including NDPL. The other beneficiaries would be decided in due course, based on the due diligence of off takers' requirements and the payment security they can offer.
The company is currently preparing a feasibility report through Tata Consulting Engineering for developing the 1,000-mw gas-based mega power project, which is in an advanced stage of finalisation. The site of the power station needs to be close to the 400 kV transmission corridor and connected to Delhi's 400 kV network. The total land requirement is around 120 acres.
Tata Power has initiated discussion with GAIL (India) Ltd for supply of gas through Petronet LNG terminal. However, the company will also propose that the plant has multi-fuel usage capability, as demonstrated at its Trombay Unit.
