ONGC to drill wells near Kozhikode

Encouraged by positive inferences from its seismic survey, ONGC is gearing up to commence drilling operations between Kozhikode and Mangalore within the next six months. The company is planning to sink two wells off the coast of Kozhikode during this period. It is in the process of mobilising rigs for the purpose. Drilling is likely to commence in late 2004 or early 2005. The process is likely to go on for another two years and company officials are hopeful of positive results.
In the meantime, ONGC is eyeing the southern coast. The company has launched a seismic survey off the southern coast of Kerala. PGS Exploration, a UK company, has bagged the contract for the preliminary survey. The company will be concentrating on an lying about 43 km between Alappuzha and Kollam where, according to the company, chances of oil find are bright.
