Watershed project in Uttaranchal
PM News Bureau
Uttaranchal will get $69.6 million from the World Bank for watershed projects. The programme is expected to benefit 9,200 villages in the state. The proposed Uttaranchal Decentralised Watershed Development Project will cover about 300,000 hectares in middle Himalayas of Uttaranchal ranging from 700 metres to 2,000 metres above sea level.
The project builds on the success of the Second Integrated Watershed Hills Project, also financed by the World Bank.
Studies indicate that integrated watershed project has several positive impacts, like, it can increase the agricultural productivity while sustaining the natural resource base.
