Kerala marina project may be located at Mulavukad
PM News Bureau
The Marina project may finally be located at Mulavukad island near Kochi in Kerala. The state government has given the green signal for the project. Tourism Resorts Kerala Ltd was eyeing the reclaimed GIDA (Goshree Islands Development Authority) land for its proposed Rs 50 crore marina project. Earlier, Bolghatty island was selected as the project site but the move was opposed on the grounds that the project could damage the heritage palace on the island. GIDA was planning to sell the land through global bidding and TRKL could acquire it by participating in the global tender. This would have created uncertainty over the project and its cost.
The marina project will be built through a joint venture in which TRKL will have 26 per cent stake and the balance will be with the Malaysian firm, Trans Resource Corporation. TRC will provide 60 yachts under phase-I. The marina will provide all facilities for international cruise liners and yachts passing by Kochi and will also provide berthing facilities, refuelling and replenishing of stores for visiting yachts. A wet dock and a gallery with equipment and machines for carrying out repair works will also be set up. The project is expected to be completed by 2007.
