Retailing LNG through cryogenic tankers
IOC plans to distribute LNG in rural areas and small towns thro-ugh cryogenic tankers. This will do away with cross-country pipelines. Chart Industries, set up by IBP (now merged with IOC) in collaboration with Cleveland, aims to become a major player in the upcoming fuel market of LNG by adopting the Virtual Pipeline concept aimed at distribution of LNG in areas not covered by pipeline network. IOC will use trucks equipped with cryogenic tanks manufactured by Chart Industries. Wartsila will supply the diesel generators. Trial run of cryogenic containers will begin in January. The project is to enter commercial phase in early 2006.
