Raw materials are hard to get
By Madhu Chittora
A major thrust in the construction chemical industry has been on time- and energy-saving methods by using chemicals. "We make flexible polymers and may emerge as a producer of coatings in future," says Dr. Kanak Saxena, Chairman and Managing Director, Anuvi Chemicals Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai. Anuvi's construction chemical systems division includes speciality polymers and products based on addition and condensation polymer chemistry. The product range offers complete solutions for new constructions as well as repair, rehabilitation and restoration of old and heritage structures.
Tremendous price advantage is their plus point, as they are one of the very few producers and suppliers of bulk polymers and monomers/ raw materials for the construction industry. "We are the cost leaders in some of the polymers," highlights Saxena. Anuvi offers quality products, services and organizes seminars, educates and guides the players and customers of construction chemicals on application of construction chemicals, as well as on safety aspects.
The skyrocketing of crude prices during the last six months slowed down the growth of the construction chemical industry. Availability of the product was a problem and prices were doubled. In these circumstances, customers looked towards China, points out Saxena. "The government should promote industries to manufacture those raw materials which Indian players are importing," she suggests. Anuvi is importing some of the raw materials/monomers from UK and USA, and in future they may import from Taiwan, too.
Sold under the RESIKON brand, Anuvi is the manufacturer of eco-friendly, water-based compounds. As per the latest trends, people are shifting from solvent to water-based compounds. Saxena believes that use of volatile organic compound should be minimized. Some of Anuvi's products are AMCOR-RR, RESIKON-RSK, and RESIKON COASTAL. For BETONDUR, a highly specialized aliphatic acrylic polymer, they have Swedish collaboration.
The company strives for excellence, ever since it started manufacturing and marketing of the construction chemicals in 1995. Research and innovations are its main thrust areas. The manufacturing unit is located at Badlapur in Thane, for which expansion plans are in progress. The production capacity is about 10,000 tpa.
