Nalco to expand captive power capacity

National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO), which is implementing Rs 4,091 crore mining-cum-refining and smeltering capacity expansion plan at Angul in Orissa is planning to expand its captive power generation capacity from 960 mw to 1200 mw. It may be recalled that the company had commenced its eight unit of captive power generation plant (with a capacity of 120 mw) in February last year at an estimated cost of Rs 480 crore. The company is in the process of increasing its Bauxite mining capacity from 48 lakh tonnes per year to 63 lakh tonnes, and its alumina refining capacity from 15.75 lakh tonnes to 21 lakh tonnes and the aluminium smelting capacity from 3.45 lakh tonnes per year to 4.60 lakhs tonnes.
