Monarchak project to get CCEA clearance soon
PM News Bureau
The Monarchak combined 208 mw cycle gas turbine power project in Tripura is likely to be taken up for scrutiny by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. The Rs 977 crore project, to be implemented by North Eastern Electricity Power Corporation in West Tripura district, is likely to receive CCEA's nod due to special impetus given by the Prime Minister's Office.
As per the original plan, the project was to set up 500 mw capacity plant and the Technical Evaluation Committee had given its approval in 2001. Due to limited availability of gas, the capacity was reduced to 280 mw later on and a revised TEC approval was given in 2003. The petroleum ministry has allocated one mmscmd gas for the project, and gas supply agreement was entered into with GAIL in September last year. NIT for turnkey contract on suppliers credit basis was issued in November 2003. NEEPCO has also entered into an MoU with Power Finance Corporation for funding the project.
