World-class aluminium project in Orissa

PM News Bureau

Hindalco Industries Ltd and the Orissa government have signed an MoU for setting up a world-class aluminium plant in the state at a total cost of around Rs 11,000 crore. The project is likely to be completed in the next four years. The state government will facilitate single window support for the project.
The integrated aluminium project will comprise an alumina refinery of 1 million metric tonnes per annum, an aluminium smelter plant of 2,60,000 tonnes per annum, a captive power plant of 650 mw and bauxite mines of 3 million tonnes annual capacity. This project has catapulted Orissa on to the world map in the metals sector.
The smelter plant and captive power plant would come up at Lapanga in Sambalpur district while the refinery will be located at Kansariguda in Koraput district. Hindalco would utilise Gopalpur Port and would also contribute in development of the rail linkage between Therubali and Gunupur through an SPV.
