Haryana clears Delhi-Gurgaon Metro stretch
PM News Bureau
The Haryana state Cabinet, sworn in recently, has approved 'in principle' the extension of Delhi Metro to Gurgaon. The Metro will link IFFCO Chowk, Gurgaon, with Qutab Minar. This stretch of the Metro, to be built on an elevated track, will be 22-km long and will have 18 stations. Construction will take place in phases. The Town and Country Planning Department, Haryana, will be the nodal department for the DMR link to Gurgaon.
The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 1,600 crore, including Rs 543 crore for extending the Metro from the Delhi-Haryana border, up to Gurgaon. The main issue of cost sharing for the extension is still to be resolved. Earlier, the Haryana government had been insisting that it would fund only the Metro stretch in its territory. As per the formula proposed by DMRC, the Haryana government would pay half the amount and infuse another one-fourth as loan. The balance amount will have to be paid by the Centre. DMRC has offered to pay for the rolling stock.
