'For open look, glass is best'
As always, design depends on the maximum utility of space, the client’s needs and his budget. Latest trends in materials are Alco Bonds which are quarter-inch thick PVC sheets used on exteriors of shops and other commercial buildings. First, wooden sheets are pasted on the surface and then Alco Bonds are applied as the finish. For an open look in large offices and homes, there's nothing better than glass. It can be used on mirror walls, partitions, screens (glass bricks placed on about one-foot high concrete base). Painted or stained glass for false ceilings, window/door panels and walls.
Latest in techniques are Auto Cad (architectural desktop) and 3-D Studio Max. These will be very much in vogue for versatility and advantages. When Auto Cad layout is copied into 3-D Max, it gets extruded (displays the layout in perspective). The days of carpenters messing up homes and offices are gone. In future, more and more carpentry work will be carried out in workshops, and readymade furniture delivered to offices and homes.
