Four Cauvery basin projects

PM News Bureau

The Karnataka and Tamil Nadu governments have failed to arrive at a comprehensive package of terms and conditions to implement the four identified Cauvery basin hydroelectric projects. Now the two state governments will concentrate on sorting out the modalities of implementing phase-I of the basin hydel projects.
The basin hydel projects involve four hydel projects: Shivasamudram, Hogenekal, Mekadatu and Rasimanal HEP projects. While the first two hydel projects will be implemented in phase-I by NHPC, the remaining two will be taken up in phase-II. 270 mw capacity at Shivamsudram and 120 mw capacity at Hogenekal have been planned. The Central government may forgo its share of allocation from these power projects.
