Rs 38 cr spent on Bakel tourism

The Centre has financial assistance Rs 390 lakh for the Bakel Tourism project, and the state government has spent Rs 38.60 crore on it. The state has entered into an agreement with private entrepreneurs to hand over three resort sites developed by the Bakel Resorts Development Corporation for the development of the tourism package in Bakel.

Work has already begun at one of the sites. Tenders have been invited to construct water tanks of seven lakh liters capacity each to provide drinking water to the resort sites. Thirty-three panchayat roads have been modernised to develop transportation facilities, and an amount has been given to the railways to construct a railway gate at Chettu Kundu level cross. The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation has taken up several projects for the development of the tourism sector such as an ayurvedic resort at Thannirmukkam, boat terminal at Kumarakam, Yatri Nivas at Mannarkad, tourist cottages at Ponmudi, restaurants at Chettuvazhi and two 3-star hotels at Allapuzha and Kannur.
