Work on Punjab habitat centre stalled

PM News Bureau

The Punjab Urban Development Authority's prestigious project of constructing the PUDA Habitat Centre in phase-X is still at the drawing board stage. The foundation stone was laid in February this year and the residents of phase X have been using the area as a park.
Due to shortage of funds, technical difficulties and bureaucratic bugbear, the work has not begun. Now PUDA has revised the estimate and pegged the cost at Rs 3 crore against the original estimate of Rs 2.20 crore. The construction is now slated to begin in November 2005, and the Centre will occupy 1.5 acres.
