Italy's Fagioli to set up equipment base

Poonam Singh

Italian Fagioli Group, leaders in alternative heavy lifting, plans to set up an equipment base at Kandla EPZ, Gujarat. The base will be spread over one acre and will have facility for storing heavy equipments, warehouses etc. It will specifically cater to demand for alternative lifting. Says Les J. Brown, Managing Director, Fagioli PSC Ltd UK, "The demand for alternative lifting is growing in India and currently the market size is pegged at around Rs 40 crore."
In India, Fagioli Group operates under the name Fagioli PSC India, Mumbai, and has catered to companies like Reliance Industries, Cochin Shipyard, Air India, NTPC and BHEL.
The group has already invested over $500,000 so far on equipments in India and plans to spend another $1.5 million as part of the equipment base to be set up in Kandla this year. Says Rajiv Sethi, Managing Director, Fagioli PSC India, "The reason why the company is bullish about India is the expansion spree in ports and refinery sectors." With refineries like Bhatinda, Kakinada, Bina and Paradip planning expansion, the company would have enough work scope. Besides, India is shifting from conventional methods of lifting to alternate lifting, Sethi added.
Alternative heavy lifting is faster and safer and can operate in constrained space. Fagioli PSC India has completed lifting a 1,480-tonne C3 splitter vessel as part of ongoing expansion work at Reliance's Jamnagar refinery. This splitter vessel was made of steel, with length of 97m and 8m diameter made in Masan, South Korea, and shipped to Gujarat.
