Dr Udai P. Singh joined CH2M HILL in 1974 as a water resources engineer and progressed through various water resources and environmental positions to his current rank as Vice President of its Environmental Business Group. CH2M HILL is the largest environmental engineering firm in the world and one of the largest engineering companies in civil engineering, infrastructure, and programme management, with about 26,000 staff in more than 300 offices globally and approximately $6 billion in annual revenue.
After completing his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1972, Dr. Singh left for USA and completed his post-graduate degree in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering from Clemson University and University of Florida. His research at Florida on the feasibility of deep well disposal of treated wastewater effluent was the basis for implementing the largest deep well injection facility in the world during the late 1970s. Currently, the same technology is being pilot tested by US and European countries to capture and store carbon dioxide in deep geological formations, as an option for mitigating global climate change.
Dr. Singh has managed CH2M HILL’s largest contracts with US Environmental Protection Agency under the superfund programme. He is one of the most knowledgeable persons in hazardous waste management and has received multiple commendations from EPA. He is currently the President-Elect of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is the first Indian-American elected by EWRI of ASCE to lead the profession in USA.
Dr. Udai P. Singh has authored more than 50 technical papers in national and international publications, and written and/or edited eight books in water resources and environmental engineering, including co-author of the book ‘Hazardous Waste Site Remediation Management’ published by Water Environment Federation.
He was selected and invited by the University of Southern California to serve on their Industry Advisory Board (2001-2007) for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has received prestigious awards like, Lifetime Hazardous Waste Management Award from WEF, Outstanding Engineering Manager Award from ASCE, Grand Award for Engineering Excellence from American Council of Engineering Companies and the Outstanding Achievement Award from EWRI. He also won the IIT Kanpur West Coast Alumni Leadership Award for a successful track record of engineering and project management.
