A. K. Haldar_ProjectsMonitorA.K. Haldar, an alumni of IIT-Kharagpur and currently Executive Director (Marketing), BEML Ltd, a public sector enterprise with three major verticals—mining and construction, defence, and rail and metro—discusses the scenario in the Indian heavy construction and mining equipment sector.

At Excon 2013, BEML will focus on the construction equipment segment and will showcase its range of equipment consisting of excavators, bulldozers, motor graders and backhoe loaders. Some of the products on display will include BD85 & BD65-1 bulldozers, BE75 & BE220 hydraulic excavators, BL9H backhoe loader and BG605I motor grader.

BEML primarily caters to key sectors of the economy like mining, power and steel. For the infrastructure and construction industry, we supply a wide range of products like bulldozers (BD85, BD80, BD65-1 & BD50), hydraulic excavators (BE300, BE240HD, BE220, BE200 & BE75), wheel loaders (BL200-1), backhoe loaders (BL9H & BL9H 4×4) and motor graders (BG605A/I & BG405).

Our company has a countrywide marketing network with 11 regional offices and 19 district offices with spare parts depot, for sales and services of mining and construction equipment.

Future strategy
BEML’s future strategy is self-reliance. For instance, we have already manufactured 150-ton electric dump truck (BH150E) and 180-ton class electric excavator (BE1800E). We are in the advanced stage of manufacturing 190-ton electric dump truck.

The scenario in the mining sector is expected to improve, as there is a huge gap between demand and supply of coal. Demand for construction equipment would also increase with the focus on improving infrastructure. We hope that things will definitely improve once funds are made available in the market.

However, the growth scenario for the construction equipment industry will depend on the government’s role in according various clearances, flow of funds etc. We also hope that financial institutions evolve new schemes to attract customers.

India will definitely emerge as a global manufacturing hub for heavy construction and mining equipment in the coming years, as major global players have already set up their manufacturing plants in the country.

BEML_ProjectsMonitorHMX Systems receives US patent
The Bengaluru-based HMX Systems, an A.T.E. group company, has received patents from the US and Australia for systems and methods for indirect evaporative cooling and two stage evaporative cooling. HMX uses this patented technology to provide comfort air-conditioning solutions to the industrial and commercial sectors.

Comfort air-conditioning by the principle of ‘two-stage evaporative cooling’ is an innovative concept that is fast catching on. HMX Systems with its highly popular products like Ambiator and Treated Fresh Air (TFA) and the newly launched Economizer has made deep inroads into both the industrial and commercial sectors, having already supplied over 18 million CFM in India so far.

HMX Systems’ comfort air-conditioning products offer comfort, economy, health, and are environment friendly. The award of US and Australian patents for the HMX technology, one of the few companies in HVAC in India to receive these patents, underlines the strength and enhances the recognition of the technology. The effectiveness of HMX’s solutions in providing energy efficient cooling solutions for industry and commerce, as well as the unique benefits, have lead to increasing confidence amongst users and consultants for this technology.
