Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, the public sector engineering and construction entity, has won new contracts in Uttarakhand and Odisha collectively worth Rs. 642 crore.
BHEL secured a contract for setting up a 444-MW hydropower project in Uttarakhand. Valued at Rs. 422 crore, the order for setting up hydro generating sets and associated electro-mechanical works for the Vishnugad Pipalkoti HEP has been placed by THDCIL (formerly Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd).
Located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Vishnugad Pipalkoti HEP is a run-of-river scheme on river Alaknanda. The project comprises four hydro generating sets of 111 MW capacity each, with vertical Francis turbines and matching hydro generators.
This is the second major order, bagged by BHEL, for a hydroelectric project in Uttarakhand in 2014. Earlier, in March, an order for the 2×60 MW Vyasi HEP was received from Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd.
In Odisha, BHEL won a contract for supply and installation of ESP package for the 2×800 MW Darlipali supercritical thermal power project.
The company will supply and install the electrostatic precipitator package for the 2×800 MW Darlipali STPP-II in Sundargarh district of Odisha. Valued at around Rs. 220 crore, the order for the ESP package has been placed by NTPC Ltd.
With this order, 13 of the 18 ESPs ordered for 660/800 MW supercritical units of NTPC, under the Cabinet approved ‘bulk tender’ power projects, have been secured by BHEL.
