Tiruvengadathan Madhanagopal

Tiruvengadathan Madhanagopal (Tim) holds a BE in civil engineering from National Institute of Technology, MSCE in environmental engineering from Wayne State University, Michigan, USA, and an MBA from University of Central Florida. He is a member of professional and technical societies, including the ASCE, WEF, AWWA, and APWA.

Madhanagopal is Plant Manager for Orange County Utilities’ (Florida, USA) Eastern Water Reclamation Facility. He has helped in designing the Eastern Water Reclamation Facility, which is considered a model facility and is included in the UN technical source book as a reference for the benefit of developing nations. He has also served as NSPE Board Director, NSPE House of Delegates member and on the WEF Public Communication and Outreach Committee.

Madhanagopal was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and moved to the US in 1978 and to Orange County in 1985 after working in Michigan for seven years. He is a certified environmental engineer with water and wastewater from the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. Madhanagopal joined Orange County in 1985 as a staff engineer at Utilities Engineering. He was promoted to senior engineer in 1989 and acting assistant manager in 1996 and also as utilities section manager later. He has managed the Eastern Water Reclamation Facility since 1997. On his watch, the facility has been recognised for excellence in engineering projects.
He also helped rewrite the county’s Sewer Use Ordinance and led the effort to earn an EMS certification from the National Bio-solids Partnerships. Orange County is the only NBP certified programme in Florida.

Madhanagopal has earned numerous awards like Engineer of the Year and Life Achievement Award from the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice. Other recognitions include E Week Engineer of the Year award, APWA Top Ten Public Works Leaders award, FES Outstanding Service to the Profession award, WEF Public Education award, FS/ASCE Engineer of the Year award in 2005 from Florida section, ASEI Engineer of the Year award, NSPE Distinguished Service to the Engineering Profession award in 2007, and IPEP Lifetime Achievement award.
Tiruvengadathan Madhanagopal has served on the National Society of Professional Engineers Board of Directors and as President of Central Florida Engineers’ Week, Inc. He has chaired the Water Environment Federal Boy Scout Jamboree Committee, served as President of the Hindu Society of Central Florida, and is on the UCF President’s Advisory Committee.
In his spare time, Madhanagopal serves as Vice Chair of the Semoran Springs District of the Central Florida Boy Scouts of America.
