In February 2015, a total of 121 contracts with a total value of Rs.13,338.56 crore were awarded, as per the data compiled by ProjectsToday. These orders, including domestic and overseas, were bagged by 89 companies across various sectors. Further, of the 121 finalised contracts, 15 were secured by Indian companies to execute job works overseas.

ITD Cementation India Ltd won a Rs.2,168-crore order from the concessionaire, Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals, for dredging and reclamation work on part of phase-I development of fourth container terminal at JN Port, Mumbai. BMCT, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PSA Bharat Investments (a subsidiary of PSA International), signed the concession with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust to develop the port’s fourth container terminal, on DBFOT basis, for a period of 30 years.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd bagged a major defence contract for supplying 14 Do-228 aircraft to Indian Air Force. Apart from these aircraft, the contract valued at around Rs.1,090 crore, includes six reserve engines, one flight simulator and associated equipment. These 14 aircraft will be manufactured by HAL’s Transport Aircraft Division in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Twenty-eight contracts worth Rs.3,567.5 crore were awarded in the power distribution sector in February 2015. Public sector Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd owned 16 of the 28 contracts. However, the largest contract in this sector, worth Rs.566.34 crore, was awarded by North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd to Bajaj Electricals Ltd for supply and erection work of 33/11kV PSS, augmentation of power and distribution transformers, and related works, on turnkey basis for strengthening, improvement and augmentation of distribution system under BRGF scheme Phase-II (Part C) and balance work of phase-I scheme in Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur and Begusarai districts of Bihar.

Fresh contracts
In February 2015, 29 fresh contracts worth Rs.3,430.85 crore were awarded in the road sector. Sadbhav Engineering Ltd bagged the largest domestic contract in this sector worth Rs.459 crore, from National Highways Authority of India, for four laning of Ambala-Kaithal section of NH-65 from 50.860 km to 95.360 km (length 44.500 km) in Haryana, under NHDP Phase-III on EPC basis (Package-II). The project was scheduled for completion in 30 months.

A total of 616 MW was awarded in the wind-based power sector wherein Inox Wind won an order from public sector NHPC Ltd for development of a 50-MW wind power project at Lakmana in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, on EPC basis. The contract includes comprehensive operation and maintenance for 10 years. The project was scheduled for completion in 30 months. Inox Wind also bagged a 166-MW contract from Green Infra, a company promoted by IDFC PE Fund, to set up projects in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Gamesa Wind Turbines secured a contract from CLP India for turnkey construction of a 100-MW wind farm in the union territory of Chandigarh. It will handle the entire infrastructure needed to install and operate 50 units of G97 turbines of 2 MW each, and also service them in the long term. It has also bagged contracts from Greenko Group for supply of wind turbines for 300 MW of wind projects in Rajasthan, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Overseas contracts
In February 2015, Indian companies bagged 15 overseas contracts worth Rs.3,053.73 crore in road, power distribution, telecom services, real estate, other storage and distribution, computer software, arms and ammunitions, and aircraft sectors from countries like Kenya, USA, Oman, Indonesia, Germany, UAE, Italy, Israel, Netherlands, Sweden and Bangladesh.

The largest overseas contract worth Rs.2,023 crore was bagged by IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd (ITNL International Pte, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company in Singapore) in consortium with Hemby Holdings (20 per cent Kenyan JV partner), from Kenya National Highways Authority for the development of 175 km of road on finance-design-build-maintain-transfer basis.
