Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy said that the redevelopment of railway stations across Telangana has gathered pace.

The minister made the remarks after reviewing the ongoing modernisation work at Hitec City railway station in Hyderabad. He noted that the redevelopment drive has accelerated under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, with station improvement emerging as a central priority.

“In Telangana, 40 railway stations are being redeveloped with modern facilities. In addition to these, the new Charlapalli railway terminal was recently inaugurated by the PM. Furthermore, Secunderabad railway station is being redeveloped at a cost of Rs 720 crore, and work is also underway on the redevelopment of Hyderabad station at a cost of Rs 350 crore. The Kacheguda redevelopment plan is awaiting approval,”

Hitec City station, which handles around 5,400 passengers and 60 local services each day, is currently undergoing a two-phase upgrade costing Rs 36 crore. The project includes a redesigned façade, a revamped circulating area, and an extended foot-over-bridge expanded from two metres to 12 metres. Passengers will also see the addition of two lifts and two escalators, improved waiting areas, upgraded toilets, refreshed concourse spaces, and a new ticketing counter on platform 2. Phase I is targeted for completion by February 2026.

Kishan Reddy added that, ahead of the Dasara and Diwali travel rush, 16 mail and express trains bound for destinations such as Bidar, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai, Kakinada, Shirdi and Narsapur were temporarily given halts at Hitec City to provide greater convenience to commuters in the western parts of Hyderabad.
