Welspun to set up solar plant in Andhra

Welspun Renewables, one of India’s leading clean energy generators, has signed a power purchase agreement for setting up a 100.1-MW solar photovoltaic project in Andhra Pradesh. Vineet Mittal, Vice Chairman, Welspun Renewables, made this commitment during World Economic Forum’s AP Investment Session at Davos in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The cumulative investment in this project would be around Rs.700 crore.

“We want to extend our green footprint in Andhra Pradesh by setting up a mega solar capacity. Welspun Renewables will be bringing its world-class engineering and project development expertise to this project. Like all our projects we aim to commission the 100.1-MW capacity well in time to meet the committed timelines,” Mittal said.

Earlier this month, Welspun Renewables signed two MoUs — 500-MW wind and 600-MW solar capacities — with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Lrd at the Vibrant Gujarat summit. The proposed Rs.8,300-crore investment go towards developing over 1 GW capacities in Gujarat.

Welspun Renewables has commissioned over 366 MW solar and wind power projects and another 978 MW capacities are under construction. The organisation envisions developing power projects pan-India, with existing projects located in other high radiation zones like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Punjab. The company also holds the distinction of winning and operating one of the world’s largest solar projects of 151 MW (DC).
