Indian firms bag maximum NHAI contracts

By A Business Correspondent

All contracts for the Golden Quadrilateral (Phase I) of the National Highways Development Project have been awarded in February 2002. Substantial completion of the GQ is expected by December 2003.

Out of the total length of 5,846 km, a length of 1,063 km has been already completed. The contract for the Allahabad Bypass, which was delayed due to problems like land acquisition etc., is expected to be awarded soon.

NHDP has awarded 146 contracts valued at Rs 23,668 crore.

The NHAI is looking at various funding options for its highway projects, including raising funds through mutual funds.
