Marthanda Varma Bridge not yet open to public

More than a month after the completion of the Marthanda Varma Bridge at Aluva in Kerala, the bridge is still not open to traffic. According to official sources, a small technical problem on the Thottakkattukara side of the bridge is delaying the inauguration of the bridge. Others attribute the delay to the unavailability of Central ministers for the opening ceremony.
The bridge, which was constructed by L&T Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore, is located close to NH-47. There is already a proposal to merge the national highway, the approach road and the bridge. A proposal got acquiring more land for the approach road is with the Central government for approval.
