SPV mooted for Krishnapatnam port rail line project

PM News Bureau

A special purpose vehicle has been mooted for the Obulavaripalli-Krishnapatnam port railway line project in Andhra Pradesh. The project, if implemented, is expected to transport 20 million tonnes of traffic, mainly comprising iron ore, barytes, coal and food grains.
It is expected that the three stakeholders-the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the Railways and companies exporting iron ore and barytes and importing coal-would come forward to participate in the SPV to complete the project in the shortest possible time. It is learnt that the government would take 13 per cent equity comprising both capital and land.
The Krishnapatnam port will be equipped with necessary facilities to handle ships with cargo of up to 2 lakh tonnes, an SCR press release said.
