    The construction arm of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a contract for its heavy civil infrastructure business from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL). This is the biggest engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract awarded in the country to date. It is the first-of-its-kind project with a mandate to construct 237.1 km stretch of Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project (MAHSR)-C4 package. The scope of work includes construction of viaducts, stations, major river bridges, depots and other auxiliary works. The estimated value of the contract is over Rs 7,000 crore. The company will deploy state-of-the-art construction methods and digital technologies to execute the project. The approximately 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project, also known as the Bullet Train project, will cover 155.76 km in Maharashtra, 4.3 km in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and 348.04 km in Gujarat with 12 stations along the route. Upon completion, the High-Speed Rail will operate at a speed of 320 km per hour, covering the entire distance in approximately two hours with limited stops and in three hours with all stops. Package-C4 represents 46.6 percent of the total length making it the longest amongst all the packages, running elevated from Zaroli village on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border to Vadodara station through four stations at Vapi, Bilimora, Surat and Bharuch in Gujarat.

    The Cochin Shipyard and Fincantieri of Italy have entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for co-operation in the areas of design, ship building, ship repair, marine equipment manufacturing, besides training & skill development. The agreement sets the ground for a strategic partnership aimed at business development for mutual benefit as well as potential indigenisation in the identified areas of cooperation in line with the ’Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ vision of the government. The Shipyard with facilities both on the East and West coast of India is a leading yard in ship building and ship repair, both on the commercial & defence fronts. Fincantieri is a shipbuilding company and has built more than 7,000 vessels, operating 18 shipyards in four continents. The company is into cruise ship design and construction and a player in all high-tech shipbuilding industry sectors, from naval to offshore vessels, from high- complexity special vessels and ferries to mega yachts, as well as in ship repairs and conversions, production of systems, mechanical and electrical component equipment and after-sales services.

    K Cement has inaugurated its new grey cement grinding unit at Balasinor in Mahisagar district of Gujarat on 24 October 2020. The unit has a manufacturing capacity of 0.7 million tpa. The plant is spread over an area of eight ha and has been set up at a total project cost of Rs 200 crore. It is part of the company's total funding outlay of Rs 2,000 crore to add 4.2 million tpa capacity, comprising two million tpa in Rajasthan, 1.5 million tpa in Uttar Pradesh and 0.7 million tpa in Gujarat. With this, the company's total installed grey cement capacity has increased to 14.7 million tpa. The new plant will not only create employment opportunities for locals but will also facilitate access to quality cement for consumers, coupled with on-time delivery. The new plant marks the company's foray into Western India. The plant will allow the company to cater to the demand in high-potential markets such as Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, among others.

    Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated the 250-bed multi-speciality Fortis Hospital in Vadapalani on 26 October 2020. This is Fortis Healthcare’s second multi-speciality hospital in Chennai city. Fortis Hospital in Vadapalani is a nine-level building covering an area of 1,50,000 sq ft and designed to provide world-class healthcare services to the public. The hospital provides state-of-the-art emergency department, modern surgical services, advanced diagnostic imaging, ambulatory clinics and intensive care beds. The new hospital features 75 ICU beds, six operation theatres, three minor operation theatres and procedure rooms, along with emergency and casualty beds, state-of-the-art cath lab and a host of other world-class facilities. The radiology department features, for the first time in Tamil Nadu, three Tesla MRI with an in-board cinematic experience and for overweight patients, a wide bore to facilitate the ease of scanning. The 256 slice dual source CT offers stunning scan time, with complete reconstruction of underlying organs and bone. The ultrasound machine is the first-of-its-kind in India that offers high-end liver elastography. The cath lab features the Azurion 7 M20 with 20 inch detector suitable for Cardiology, Neurology and GI Procedures, along with inbuilt IVUS that is attached to a dedicated CCU.

    The construction arm of Larson & Toubro (L&T) has secured orders from clients for its varied businesses. The Commercial and Residential Spaces arm of Buildings & Factories business has won orders from a reputed developer to construct a residential project and an office space in Mumbai. The scope of the residential project includes construction of two towers comprising G+45 floors and having a built-up area of 10 lakh sq ft. The scope of the office space includes construction of civil structure with a built-up area of five lakh sq ft comprising two basements, G+37 floors. The Factories arm business has received an order from a leading global shipping & logistics company for design and construction of a warehousing logistics park at Mumbai. The scope of work includes construction of warehouses and associated infrastructure works. The Factories arm has also secured an order for construction of 4,000 tpd capacity clinker plant in Odisha. The scope involves civil, structural & mechanical works. The project completion deadline is 24 months. Furthermore, the business has also received add-on orders for ongoing projects in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The Water & Effluent Treatment business has secured an order from the Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board for providing 24x7 surface-based water supply to Patiala town. The scope of the project includes design and construction of a water treatment plant of capacity 115 MLD, clear water reservoir, underground storage reservoir, pumping station, overhead storage reservoirs (OHSRs), clear water pipelines and other instrumentation works. Another order has been secured from Gujarat Water Infrastructure for design, construction and operation of Navda to Chavand bulk water transmission pipeline project in Gujarat. The scope of work comprises construction of RCC sumps, pump houses, supply and laying of MS pipeline along with associated mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works. The project aims to supply additional 280 MLD bulk water to Amreli, Junagadh, Botad and Rajkot districts. A repeat order from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board has been secured by the business for construction of ground level reservoirs with associated mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works, along western route (CP 13) of Bengaluru, Karnataka. The project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is part of Phase-III of the Bengaluru water supply and sewerage project. The Railways Strategic Business of Transportation Infrastructure has won order from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The order involves manufacturing, supplying, installation, testing and commissioning of pre-cast ballastless slab track system along with associated works for Delhi-Meerut section (82 km) as part of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) network of NCRTC. This will be India's first-of-its-kind pre-cast ballastless slab track project. It will be constructed using specialised technology to be provided by PORR (Austria). The track will be constructed for a design speed of 180 km per hour. The project is to be completed in a period of 42 months. The cumulative order value is between Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000 crore.
