The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has cleared the development of a 4-lane, access-controlled greenfield and brownfield corridor connecting Patna to Sasaram (120.10 km) in Bihar. With an estimated cost of Rs. 3,712.40 crore, this project will be carried out under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). Currently, travel between Sasaram, Arrah, and Patna via State Highways (SH-2, SH-12, SH-81, and SH-102) takes 3-4 hours due to heavy congestion, particularly in Arrah town. To alleviate this, the new greenfield corridor will be constructed along with a 10.6 km stretch to upgrade the existing brownfield highway, addressing the growing congestion and serving densely populated areas like Arrah, Grahini, Piro, Bikramganj, Mokar, and Sasaram.

The project will also integrate with key transport networks, such as NH-19, NH-319, NH-922, NH-131G, and NH-120, ensuring smooth connectivity to Aurangabad, Kaimur, and Patna. It will connect major transport hubs, including Patna’s Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, the upcoming Bihita airport, four major railway stations (Sasaram, Arrah, Danapur, Patna), and one Inland Water Terminal (Patna), as well as improve access to Patna Ring Road for more efficient goods and passenger movement.

Once completed, the Patna-Arrah-Sasaram Corridor will be a key driver of regional economic growth, enhancing connectivity between Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, and Varanasi. This initiative supports the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by bolstering infrastructure, creating jobs, and promoting socio-economic progress in Bihar. The project is expected to generate 48 lakh man-days of employment, opening new paths for development and prosperity in the surrounding regions.
