WPI Feb 2025

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for February 2025 recorded an annual inflation rate of 2.38% (provisional) compared to February 2024. This positive inflation rate is primarily attributed to rising prices in the manufacturing of Food products, Food articles, Other manufactured goods, Non-food articles, and Textiles. On a month-over-month basis, the WPI increased by 0.06% in February 2025 compared to January 2025.

Changes in Major WPI Categories:

  1. Primary Articles: The index for primary articles declined by 1.74%, dropping from 189.9 in January 2025 to 186.6 in February 2025. The price decrease was noted in Food articles (-2.05%), Crude petroleum & natural gas (-1.46%), Minerals (-1.26%), and Non-food articles (-0.36%).
  2. Fuel & Power: This category saw an index rise of 2.12%, moving from 150.6 in January 2025 to 153.8 in February 2025. Electricity prices increased by 4.28%, and Mineral oils rose by 1.87%, while Coal prices remained unchanged from the previous month.
  3. Manufactured Products: The index for Manufactured goods increased by 0.42%, climbing from 143.2 in January 2025 to 143.8 in February 2025. Among the 22 NIC two-digit groups, 17 recorded a price increase, 2 saw a decline, and 3 remained unchanged. Notable categories with rising prices included Other manufacturing, Food products, Basic metals, Non-metallic mineral products, and Chemicals. However, prices declined in the manufacture of Wood products and Leather and related goods.

WPI Food Index: The WPI Food Index, which includes both food articles from the primary articles category and food products from the manufactured products group, decreased from 191.4 in January 2025 to 189.0 in February 2025. The annual inflation rate for the Food Index fell from 7.47% in January 2025 to 5.94% in February 2025.

Final WPI Data for December 2024: For December 2024, the final WPI (base year 2011-12 = 100) was 155.7, with an annual inflation rate of 2.57%.
