Damodar Valley Corporation’s (DVC) pending dues from various firm consumers and beneficiaries have reached a staggering figure of Rs.  8,195 crore thus ringing alarm bells at the top management level. DVC has to collect dues from various firm consumers in Jharkhand and West Bengal as well as beneficiaries like Delhi discoms and MP Power Company. The bulk consumers of Jharkhand have pending payments worth Rs. 421 crore to the company, while those in West Bengal have held up payments worth Rs. 1,475 crore to DVC.

Mounting dues from the consumers has forced DVC to explore the possibility of offloading its bulk distribution business in Jharkhand and West Bengal to the respective state governments. While the West Bengal government has okayed the offer, the Jharkhand government is still evaluating the possibility of such a take over. After offloading the bulk distribution business, DVC is planning to shift its entire focus on generation.
